Dear Yuletide Writer

Thank you very much for offering to write a story for one of my lovely fandoms. This is my first year participating so I hope I don't screw this up too badly. :D

I'm told it's helpful if I chat a bit about things I love and hate in fic, but while I'd appreciate it greatly if you'd avoid the things I actively dislike I hope you consider the rest of this letter to be no more than the rambling suggestions of a mind much given to rambling.

Things I love in fic

This is more difficult than I thought it would be as many different things appeal to me so here, have a bit of a ramble.

I love long plotty stories, character driven PWP and even well-executed drabbles.

I love snark, banter, understated humour and crack!fic of the sort where your eyes roll when you read the story’s header but once you read the story you think "well that makes sense" and then worry that you might need psychiatric help; less everyone is now a Meerkat and more Doctor Who is John Watson’s new psychiatrist.

I have a ridiculous fondness for tropes in the “forced to share a bed,” “drunken declarations,” “we’re going to die so...” type of vein.

I have a massive competency kink. The characters I love tend to be defined in large part by their competency. To be clear, it’s not perfection that attracts me. The characters that fascinate me get knocked down a lot, are often still carrying the scars (whether or not they’re visible) and still get back up and regularly attempt the impossible; think Batman, not Superman. Please do not make competent characters weak to fit a story.

I love characters that think a lot but say little and often the little they do say is at odds with what they’re thinking.

I love misunderstanding, jealousy, hurt/comfort and angst by the shed load. In fact, I’m really overly fond of “we bloody well earned this happy ending” angst.

I love 'shippy fic, from the sexually explicit to the sort where the raising of a single eyebrow is deeply significant. I love that aching feeling when character A is sure that character B would never be interested in him, but not when it crosses the line in to character A thinking no one would ever be interested in him. If they’re in a relationship I want the characters to remain as true to canon as possible, for instance, not suddenly bursting in to tears when they would never do so in canon.

I don't mind a little kink but towards the vanilla end of the spectrum. As an example, I like a little rough sex or the use of handcuffs in fic but not as part of a larger (more formalized?) d/s or BDSM story. I just don't see any of my favourite characters as particularly submissive or as being likely to become emotionally invested in anyone they could easily dominate mentally, even if they could do so physically.

Things I dislike in fic

Mpreg
RPF
Partner betrayal
Threesomes/Moresomes
Underage sex

Things I really dislike in fic

Alternative Universe
BDSM, D/S
Omegaverse
Dub-con, Non-con, Rape, Torture (if it’s non-graphic/happens off screen it’s all right if it serves a plot point)
Death fic (if it's a character that dies in canon it's all right)

I have one absolutely concrete squick: Incest. It doesn't bother me if other people want to write it/read it but it won't be me.

Person of Interest(TV) – Reese, Finch

I’m a Reese/Finch shipper so of course some Slash(y) POI fic would make me very happy. Very. Happy. That said, I would also really enjoy Gen fic as long as it centres on Reese & Finch and their interaction.

I love practically every character that’s ever appeared on this show, including the villains, and would be happy to see any of them used in the story.

I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t pair Reese or Finch up with any other character or write threesome/moresome fic with them.

They are very different from each other, but equal, have no one to count on but each other, are snarky as hell, and their competency levels are really bloody high... *bliss*

A few (suggestion only) prompts:

Root returns but this time she takes Reese as leverage.

Reese is the new number but Finch doesn’t tell him, using excuses to stay close to him and working with Fusco, Carter or anyone else on Team Machine to save him.

Quote prompt: “Jealousy is all the fun you think they had.” -- Erica Jong.

Hurt/comfort is delicious in this fandom.

Reese goes rogue, or at least that’s what Finch thinks.

Human Target(TV 2010) – Guerrero, Chance

Guerrero/Chance slash(iness) or Guerrero & Chance would make me equally happy in this fandom.

I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t pair Guerrero or Chance up with any other character or write threesome/moresome fic with them.

I’m happy for any of the other canon characters to be used in the story but I’d like the focus to be on Guerrero and Chance... Well, Guerrero in particular. *g*

I would particularly like a story that explores one of Guerrero’s side projects, perhaps one where he ends up needing a favour from Chance.

Mainly though I would love any story where Guerrero is his full-on BAMF! self and/or one that explores how he’s willing to risk things/do things for Chance that he wouldn’t do for anyone else.

Philip Marlowe -- Raymond Chandler

I have loved Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe novels ever since I first read them when I was eleven years old and it’s never faded. I love almost everything about them (given their age the novels are not PC by any means).

I love Philip Marlowe who despite being flawed, damaged and cynical with a jaded view of the world still wants to save it:

Over the entrance doors, which would have let in a troop of Indian elephants, there was a broad stained-glass panel showing a knight in dark armor rescuing a lady who was tied to a tree and didn’t have any clothes on but some very long and convenient hair. The knight had pushed the vizor of his helmet back to be sociable, and he was fiddling with the knots on the ropes that tied the lady to the tree and not getting anywhere. I stood there and thought that if I lived in the house, I would sooner or later have to climb up there and help him. He didn’t seem to be really trying. The Big Sleep.

But the overblown language and noir style is what still makes my heart go pit-a-pat.

So, if you want to write Gen, Slash or Het in this fandom, pair anyone with anyone, I’m more than all right with it.

Give Marlowe a case, send him on holiday, put him in hospital recovering from a gunshot wound or minor surgery where the guy in the next bed dies a mysterious death, really, anything you want, but please, I beg of you, keep it in it’s original time period and deliver it in a Chandleresque style and I will be utterly thrilled.
